ABOUT US
Gakushuin University Cheering Symphonic Winds (GSW) was founded in 1989, the first year of Heisei era. It has been 33 years since our club began. Our club is relatively new compared with other music clubs in Gakushuin University. Members consist of Gakushuin University students and Gakushuin Women’s University students. Currently, in May 2022, there are 107 members in our club: 81 are Gakushuin University students and 25 are Gakushuin Women’s University students.
In our club, we can experience two different kinds of activities. We can exert ourselves on both cheering Gakushuin athletes and general band club activities such as concerts and band competitions. This is the uniqueness which other Gakushuin University music clubs provably do not have!
As for the cheering activities, we not only cheer Gakushuin sports clubs’ athletes but also perform on stages for charity donations or school festivals. Moreover, what we do as a band club are for instance, participating in band competitions and holding annual concert. Our uniqueness is that not only you can join music events but also you can experience various activities!
In 2003, Heisei 15 nen, we participated in the summer band competition of which division was for working adults. We entered the competition as Gakushuin Wind Ensemble for the first time. However, we changed the division into Tokyo Universities Band Competition in 2015, Heisei 27 nen, and we have been practicing a lot to win the prize since then.
In 2021, we changed name from Gakushuin Wind Ensemble to Gakushuin University Symphonic Winds, because number of members had increased rapidly, and we thought the phrase, wind ensemble does not fit to our band anymore.

【Activity Days・Time Schedule】
We mainly practice three times a week in Fujimi Kaikan.
Tuesdays・Thursdays ...18:10~20:00
Sundays...13:30~17:00
＊There will be extra practices in June to August for band competitions and November to December for the annual concert.
